On Tuesday, March 21, Mumbaikars woke up to a pleasant surprise - heavy unseasonal rains that lashed Mumbai and nearby cities in the morning, bringing down the temperature. While the unseasonal rains may have caught some residents off guard, they brought a welcome respite from the hot and humid weather that Mumbai is known for.
Thane, Mira-Bhayander, and Vasai-Virar were also not spared from the spell of heavy showers that lasted for several hours. However, despite the heavy rainfall, train and bus services remained unaffected, and the BEST bus operations were reported to be normal.
According to officials, the India Meteorological Department attributed the spell of rains to the westerly wind and moisture incursion from the Arabian Sea. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported that some parts of Mumbai and its suburbs recorded up to 20-25 mm of rainfall between 7 am and 8 am. Specific areas in Central Mumbai, Eastern suburbs, and Western suburbs also reported varying levels of rainfall.
While Mumbai is no stranger to monsoon rains, the unseasonal rains have caught the attention of locals and weather enthusiasts alike. Despite this, the resilience of Mumbaikars remains unshaken, with life carrying on as usual in the city.
Overall, the unseasonal rains have provided much-needed relief to the residents of Mumbai and its satellite cities, signaling a pleasant change in the weather.
